The Getz-Gilberto Collection
I mainly like this Déjà vu collection (of the kind that were available on cassette and LP from Woolworth’s in the 1980s) because of the vocals by João and Astrud Gilberto, although Getz does plays some excellent fills and solos. ‘Samba da minha terra’, ‘One note samba’, ‘The telephone song’, ‘Only trust your heart’, ‘O Pato’, and ‘Rosa Moreno’ are the highlights. Most of these tracks are on the Verve album Getz/Gilberto #2.
Children of the World
Overall this isn’t a good album, but there is something strangely appealing about the combination of Getz’s airy sound with the poppy ‘70s production and string arrangements, and it makes it onto my list because of the gorgeous ‘You, me and the spring’.
