Expectations

A lengthy and very free ramble through a variety of musical landscapes, with the two common dominators being: excellent melodies that ebb and flow, and adventurous solos. The presence of Dewey Redman on tenor and Charlie Haden on bass makes the music frequently reminiscent of the Ornette Coleman quartet, but Jarrett’s folksy melodies, Sam Brown’s distorted electric guitar, and the studio string and brass ensembles, all offset the avant-garde jazz element which is at the heart of this music, with something like the feel of a progressive rock concept-album.
