Born to be Blue

This is what you call a ‘tasty’ album; great tunes and arrangements (check the introduction to ‘Back in your own backyard’), a relaxed but upbeat feel, nobody is trying to prove anything, but everything swings in the most authentic fashion. Guitarist Green is a nice player, but the most interesting solos are from swing tenorist Ike Quebec, who has a distinctively growly sound, and whose playing is faintly reminiscent of Ben Webster, Illinois Jacquet, and Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis all at once.
