Where is Brooklyn?

After working with Albert Ayler, Don Cherry seemed to like having extreme avant-garde tenor saxophone players in his band, and he certainly went through the cream of them, most notably Gato Barbieri, Pharoah Sanders, and Frank Lowe. This album has Pharoah, sounding as ferocious as ever, but the album as a whole makes for easy listening relative to the genre: raw, raggedy and catchy tunes, with the blistering solos confined within the form. The highlight is ‘The Thing’.
